If you have Super 8 film cartridges, 8mm reels or VHS tapes stashed in a closet, you know those physical forms don’t last forever because of material degradation.

Paul and Debi Luke, owners of Home Video Studio – Apollo Beach, transfer older media to a USB drive and other digital devices. But that’s just the first step. Their business model is actually dedicated to transforming memories into keepsakes. Services include editing videos, restoring photos, compiling sports highlight reels, and scanning slides, negatives or scrapbook pages. They also produce personalized videos for weddings and other milestone events, family legacies and memorial tributes.

“Anyone can transfer a tape,” Paul Luke said. “Our passion is helping families preserve their memories, tell their stories and create something meaningful that can be shared with children, grandchildren and future generations.”

The Lukes opened Home Video Studio - Apollo Beach in 2025. Theirs is one of a nationwide network of studios, each of which is locally owned and operated. The Apollo Beach location developed out of Paul Luke's lifelong passion for storytelling and preserving history. “We recognized that many families have boxes of videotapes, film reels, photos, slides and memorabilia that are slowly deteriorating,” he said. “We wanted to create a local solution where people could trust someone in their own community with their irreplaceable memories.”

With almost 50 years of experience in broadcasting, media operations and professional video production, he oversees the editing, restoration projects and video transfers. Debi Luke’s background is in nonprofit leadership and conservation, working to protect wildlife and inspire people to care about the natural world; she handles the company’s community outreach and marketing. Both of them understand and appreciate the importance of storytelling and preserving history.

They provide each customer with dedicated one-on-one service. “Every project brings a different family history and a different set of emotions,” Paul Luke said.

Many people still have videotapes and film, but no longer have the necessary equipment to watch anything. They haven’t been able to see home movies in years, sometimes decades. For the Lukes, the most rewarding part of their business is the reactions of customers who get to see and hear a loved one again, or relive a special family moment.

One customer brought in a collection of old videotapes that hadn't been viewed in more than 25 years, and she wasn’t even sure what was on the tapes. It turned out to be footage of her children when they were toddlers, playing with their grandparents who had since passed away. The customer said that hearing her loved ones’ voices again was one of the greatest gifts she could have received. “Moments like that remind us why preserving memories matters so much,” Debi Luke said.

“We've learned to keep a box of tissues nearby.”

“We know that every tape, photograph, or film reel represents something that cannot be replaced,” Paul Luke said.

The Lukes have called Florida home for many years. They chose the Ruskin/Apollo Beach area for its sense of community, the coastal lifestyle and the welcoming spirit of South Shore residents. “What stands out most is the strong emphasis on family, relationships and helping neighbors,” Debi Luke said.

While Home Video Studio - Apollo Beach doesn’t offer commercial videography or live event production on the front end, they do take care of the memories afterward. “Helping families reconnect with their stories and sharing them with future generations is the most rewarding part of what we do,” Debi Luke said.

In their professional home studio, the Lukes serve customers, by appointment, throughout Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties.

“We feel fortunate to be part of a community that understands the importance of celebrating life's milestones and honoring family legacies,” Paul Luke said. “We look forward to serving our neighbors for many years to come.”
