Shirley Massaro
Shirley Edna (Grimes) Bruneau Massaro, 87, of Kings Point, Sun City Center, Fla., died peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Roland Bruneau of West Warwick, R.I., to whom she was married in 1947. Roland was the love of her life until his death in 1984. Shirley married Armand Massaro in 1998. They travelled widely and enjoyed many fine years before his passing in 2007.
Born in Pawtucket, R.I., a daughter of the late Edna and Joseph Grimes, Shirley lived in West Warwick prior to moving to Florida. She graduated from West Warwick High School in 1945. Shortly after, she joined the civil service at Davisville Seabee Base for some two decades. She also enjoyed an outstanding career in retail management and retired from the former Jordan Marsh.
Shirley was an individual of great faith, courage and intelligence. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who filled the lives of all those around her with joy, friendship and inspiration. She loved music, dancing and travel, and displayed her competitive spirit in friendly games and sports. Shirley greatly valued her long, happy retirement in Sun City Center, participating in numerous clubs and activities at Kings Point, including the New England, Dance and Italian clubs. Her greatest pleasures in life were those spent with her adoring and loving family.
She leaves two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard Bruneau and wife Patricia of Wethersfield, Conn., and Brian Bruneau and wife Mary of Indian Land, S.C.; grandchildren Allison Bruneau Edwards (Raymond), Jennifer, Jeffrey (Elisa), and Adam Bruneau; Joshua, Brianna and Jenalee Bruneau; and great-grandchildren David, James and Sarah Edwards; her devoted sister, Joyce Grimes Jones; sisters-in-law Lori Grimes and Eleanor Grimes; loving companion Ed Laramee; stepson William Massaro (Cynthia); and many wonderful nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Lynn Bruneau, who passed shortly after birth. She was the beloved sister of the late George Grimes, Roberta Pelletier, Patricia Gleason, Elizabeth Bruneau and Raymond Grimes.
Interment followed a Mass of Christian burial on February 15 in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, West Warwick, R.I.
