Richard Brown “Dick” Billings, 86, passed away February 21 following open-heart surgery. Dick will be remembered as a kind and caring man, a loving husband and a devoted father, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dick was born in Mexico City, son of an American attorney, on September 26, 1929. The family returned to the United States, settling in Scarsdale, N.Y., in 1939. Dick attended Admiral Farragut Academy before entering Hampden Sydney College, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity.

While in college, Dick met Billie Marie Wood, and they were married in 1954. After the Air Force, Dick settled in Euclid, Ohio, where he worked for TRW. His three sons were born there. In 1967, the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, where they remained until retirement in 1995, when Billie and Dick moved to Sun City Center.
Dick always put his family first, and was active as a Scout leader with his sons. He enjoyed woodworking, do-it-yourself projects and gardening, but his first love, besides family, was model railroading.
Dick leaves his wife of 61 years, Billie Marie; sons Brad (Ramona), Jeff (Robin) and William “Bill” (Deanna); and grandsons Greg and Robert behind with cherished memories.
Burial will be in late March at the Sarasota Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Dick’s name to the Sun City Model Railroad Club: Dan Donegan, Secretary & Treasurer, Sun City Center Model Railroad Club, 2228 Platinum Drive, Sun City Center, FL 33573.
