Ellen Stein
Ellen M. Stein, formerly of Sun City Center, passed away suddenly on May 4, 2016, in Tyler, Texas, where she had been living for the last 18 months with her children.
Ellen was born in Far Rockaway, N.Y., to Sophia Fialkoff Neitlich and Nathan Neitlich. As a young woman she traveled to Spain to continue her love of dance with a flamenco troupe. She left her career early to marry Arthur Stein and start a family.
She is survived by her son, David (Stella) Stein of Tyler, Texas; daughter Nina (Lawrence) Crawford of Charlottesville, Va.; and grandchildren Michelle, Erica and Lindsey Stein.
While living in Sun City Center for over 20 years, Ellen was involved in many choral groups, including Sweet Adeline’s, Yom Hashoa Choir and the Kings Point Follies. She taught classes in dance that were enjoyed by many.
Ellen served Beth Israel Jewish Congregation as President of the Sisterhood, and subsequently served as President of the congregation. She was given the honor of Woman of Distinction by the Tampa Jewish Federation for her commitment to the congregation and the Sun City Center community at large. Ellen had the capacity to light up a room. Her small stature was overshadowed by her great presence. She loved her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 1, 2016, at Beth Israel Jewish Congregation of Sun City Center, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Beth Israel Jewish Congregation of Sun City Center, 1115 East Del Webb Blvd., Sun City Center, FL 33573.
