Jackie L. “Jack” Allender, 78, passed away Oct. 24, 2016, at the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ken., He was a resident of La Grange, Ken., and former resident of Indianapolis.
Jack was born August 18, 1938, in Franklin to the late Reed and Dorothy (Walker) Allender. He was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Franklin College in 1961. Jack served as a Sergeant with the United States Army.
He retired in 1991 as a District Sales Manager for Ameritech Publishing after 28 years. After retirement, Jack served as a Bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints in Ruskin, Fla.
Jack loved his family and was committed to his church family. He served his community both in Florida and Indiana by serving on committees such as United Way and March of Dimes. Jack also served as a Regional Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Club, Junior Achievement and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Corvette Club with owning 74 Corvettes throughout his life. Jack was an avid golfer and all around competitor.
Jack is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra K. (Rudolph) Allender; children Cheryl Yazell of Indianapolis, Carol Pferrer of Avon, Jason Engelken of Greenwood and Jeremy (Allison) Engelken of Boston; siblings, Carolyn (Lee) Service and John Robert Allender both of Ruskin, Florida; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 27, at Meredith–Clark Funeral Home, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown, Ind. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
