Naomi Lois Herren, 88, of Lafayette, Ind. passed away at 8:10 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Rosewalk Village.

Born January 19, 1928 in Jasper County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Caughey and Alice (Chapman) Imler, and she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Everett and Blanche Warner, of Brookston. She was the youngest of eight children during hard times. Naomi graduated from Flora High School and South Bend Memorial Hospital Nursing School, where she earned her associate degree.

Her marriage was to Marion LeRoy “Roy” Herren on December 31, 1946 in Flora, Ind. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2002. Over the years, Naomi had lived in Niles, Mich., Ruskin, Fla., Sun City Center, Fla., and Lafayette, Ind.

Naomi was a surgical technician at Niles Pawating Hospital for 25 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Florida and recently transferred to Christ United Methodist Church of Lafayette. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, Laureatte Beta Sigma Phi, and Polio Survivors Club. Naomi enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Russell Herren (wife: Beverly) of Lafayette; a sister, Grace Bush of Brookston; two grandchildren, Todd Herren (wife: Tina) of Lafayette, and Tammara Kafka (husband: Troy) of Fishers; and five great-grandchildren, Harley Herren, Casey Herren, Tommy Kafka, Jack Kafka and Annie Kafka.

Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are six siblings, Pauline Collins, Frances Allen, Kate Ward, Alice Perkins, Jasper Imler and Blanche Hofherr.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church (3610 S. 18th St., Lafayette, IN 47909), with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Scott Mann officiating.
