Richard C. Fox

Richard C. “Dick” Fox, 81, of Sun City Center, Florida, and formerly of Dayton, passed away on December 30, 2016 at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Dick was born on December 2, 1935, in Dayton. A graduate of Fairview-White High School in 1953, he began working at his family’s dry cleaning business, Fox Cleaners, in Dayton. He then enrolled at The Ohio State University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Tau fraternity, as well as a trumpet player for the OSU Marching Band. He took great pride in sharing that he had been a member of “The Best Damn Band In The Land!” He graduated in 1961 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. That same year, Dick entered the United States Air Force as a Captain.
After serving honorably for two years, he spent an additional two years at Ohio State for training in pediatric dentistry. Dick then returned to Dayton, and worked in pediatric dental surgery at Dayton Children’s Hospital for the remainder of his career, retiring in 2011. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, especially training the resident dentists, and will be fondly remembered not only by his former patients, but also those who worked alongside Dick and listened to him “hum” as he went about his day.
Dick was preceded in death by his mother Alice Virginia Carville, father Richard K. Fox, brother Edward Fox, infant daughter Lisa Fox, son Steven Fox and two infant grandchildren Katharine and Austin Fox. He is survived by his loving wife Loriann, his son Mark R. (Amy) Fox, his daughter Carolyn (Paul) Kimmel, his stepson Nick Bocklage and seven grandchildren Cameron, Richard Carter, Hayden and Addison Fox, Trevor and Camie Raymond and Tori Bocklage.
