Helen Kathleen “Katie” Waters Simmons, age 87, of Sun City Center, Florida and formerly of Fremont and Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017, in Marietta, Georgia. Katie was born on May 11, 1929, in Fremont and married Raymond G. Zwingeberg who preceded her in death in 1987. Katie was a registered nurse who worked for many years in the Grand Rapids area. She later married Robert C. Simmons who also preceded her. Katie enjoyed making jewelry and stained glass, gardening, sewing and reading.
Katie is survived by her children, Diane (Michael) Woodard of Woodstock, Georgia; Dr. Linda Fickes of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Ray Zwingeberg of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Alana Fickes, Leigha Woodard, Nicole Woodard, and Olivia Woodard; step-daughters, Robyn Easom and Becky Bowling; and brother, Dr. Lee Waters of Bay Shore, Michigan. Katie was preceded by husbands, Raymond and Robert; sister, Marion Ludlow; and brother, James Waters.
