Philip Vincent Volpe

Philip Vincent Volpe, age 85, of Sun City Center, formerly of Butler, Pa., passed away Friday evening, March 24, 2017, at LifePath Hospice in Ruskin.

Born in Butler, Pa. July 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Felice and Margaret Tiberi Volpe.

He was employed as a superintendent at Conrail. He retired in 1990 with 40 years’ service.

Philip was a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Sun City Center and Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

He was an avid golfer, bowler and gardener, and also belonged to the Elks Lodge in Ruskin.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Whipple Volpe; two sons, Philip Jay Volpe, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Thomas Ralph Volpe, of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Patricia Daugherty and her husband, Larry, of Center Township, Beaver County, Pa.; three sisters, Constance Ferrick and her husband, Charles, of Butler, Lucy Mudrick, of Butler, and Florence Stakor, of Butler; and six grandchildren.

Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. from Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Avenue, Butler.

Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
