Martha F. Ferrell
January 12, 1925 – July 1, 2017
Martha Anne Fulton Ferrell, 92, formerly of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and the Outer Banks, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, in Sun City Center, Fla., after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 12, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was predeceased by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Ferrell, her parents Charles Smith Fulton and Susan Emerson Astin Fulton, her sister, Agnes F. Morris and her son-in-law, Art Baum.
Mrs. Ferrell is survived by her three daughters, Annette Baum of Sun City Center, Dianne Beswick and her husband David, of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and Joy Catron of Culpeper, Va. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Barbara Gardner, Susan Beswick, and Lincoln Catron, and their respective spouses and children.
Mrs. Ferrell was a founder of the Virginia Beach Library and a member of the Virginia Beach Garden Club. She considered the library to be her greatest accomplishment outside of her family. She was a wonderful support to her husband by entertaining colleagues and friends with her warmth and southern hospitality. She loved to travel and shared her respect for and appreciation of other cultures with her children. She enjoyed the beach, dancing, golf, and playing bridge with her friends.
Over the years, she was a member of the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club in Virginia Beach and the Duck Woods Golf and Country Club in Kitty Hawk, N.C. She was a member of the United Methodist Church throughout most of her life and of Sun City Center’s Unity Church in her later years.
A graveside service will be conducted at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Va., on Tuesday, August 1, at 10 a.m.
