Karen E. Butterfield
Karen Eliss Landry Butterfield, 69, world traveler, lover of good food and fine jewelry, embarked on her solo, first class ultimate all-expenses-paid journey to her final destination on June 11. Her increasing leg pain turned out to be stage 4 multiple cancers when correctly diagnosed at Moffitt Cancer Center. Her tumors had invaded bone, her spinal cord, both lungs and her heart. Karen overcame multiple surgeries, hospital stays, radiation treatments and 10 rounds of chemotherapy with her smile and infectious laugh in place. When informed of her prognosis and the inability to have surgery to remove the tumors due to the advanced-stage cancer, Karen chose to spend her final days at home with her husband James and her current pug daughters, Xian and Shanghai.
