Janet Hance Isenberg
Janet Hance Isenberg, 94, passed away peacefully at Clare Bridge, Homewood Residences, on July 3, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Henry “Tony” W. Isenberg Jr.; daughter Elizabeth “Betsy” (Richard) Volk; son Henry Peter (Sheri) Isenberg; three grandsons Andrew Volk, Henry David Isenberg and Daniel Isenberg.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
Janet had a unique high school experience, graduating in a class of 25 from Montclair State Teachers College, College High School, where all of her classes were taught by college professors. After high school she completed advanced secretarial training at the Sherwood School in Paterson, N.J. Upon completing her secretarial training she worked for the Red Cross during World War II (on call 24 hours a day) and an additional four years afterward.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
Upon marrying Tony, she moved to Maplewood, N.J. where she became a wonderful stay-at-home wife, mother and community volunteer. After Betsy was born she and Tony moved to a new home in West Orange, N.J. where they resided for 45 years. When Janet’s children were older she joined Tony at the Henry R. Isenberg Tile and Marble Company as the Secretary-Treasurer of the company. After first retiring in New Jersey, Janet and Tony moved to Sun City Center 22 years ago, where Janet’s mother had lived.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
Janet’s favorite pastimes were reading, gardening, tennis, doing needle point (she completed over 100 large needlepoints), cooking and playing bridge. Janet and Henry enjoyed traveling and cruising. Wherever they went, Janet looked for new local needlepoint canvases to work on to remind them of their visit.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
A private service with interment at the Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being taken care of by The National Cremation Society, formerly Lewers Funeral Home.
