Caroline Milam
Caroline Milam, a resident of Naples, died peacefully on July 5. She is dearly remembered for her giving spirit, selfless heart and dedication to family and friends.
Born in Staten Island, N.Y., on September 29, 1925, as Caroline Jean Brown, Caroline married Vernon George Milam in 1951. The couple had three daughters: Karen Rumolo of New Jersy, Ann Milam of North Carolina and Lynn Schaefer of Florida. She is predeceased by her husband Vernon Milam, and her brothers, Charles and William (Junie).<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
While in Staten Island, Caroline taught Sunday School at the Church of the Ascension, was on St. Martha’s Guild and co-chaired the holiday church bazaar. Caroline was cookie chairperson for the Girl Scouts and was always baking for school classes and church groups. Caroline was very talented with all kinds of needlecrafts, which she decorated her home with. She is remembered for hosting countless family gatherings.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
The family moved from Staten Island to Cherry Hill, N.J., in 1971, and a few years later to Medford, N.J.
Caroline and Vern moved to Sun City Center, Fla., in 1984. During their 31 years there, Caroline was a generous volunteer at South Bay Hospital for over 22 years and Senior Day Care through the Hillsborough County Department of Aging Services for 10 years. She and Vern gave time to Meals on Wheels, operated by Good Samaritans, for 10 years. She was an active member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church and was on altar guild, hosted coffee hour, member of Cursili, and Compassionate Friends.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
Caroline’s mission in life was to connect and help others. She never sought recognition and was a loving magnet who held family and friends together.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
Caroline is survived by and will be dearly missed by her daughters and their husbands, Karen and Michael Rumolo, Ann Milam and Brad Hill, Lynn and Wayne Schaefer, grandchildren Kristen and her husband John Mullane,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Steven Rumolo and his wife Sharon, Matthew Rumolo, Kelly Schaefer, and great-grandchildren John Mullane and Caroline Mullane.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 25, at 4 p.m. with a small reception following at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 1015 Del Webb Blvd. E., Sun City Center, FL 33573.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the Building Fund of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Sun City Center, Fla.
