Arthur L. Jarvela
December 2, 1928 – August 18, 2018
Arthur L. Jarvela, 89, a resident of Arbour Square in Harleysville, Pa. since October 2017, passed away on August 18, 2018, at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in East Norriton, Pa. He formerly lived in Sun City Center, Fla. for 31 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Jarvela, in 2005, and by his second wife Betty Scroggie Jarvela, in 2017.
Born December 2, 1928, in Laurium, Mich., he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Laura (Christensen) Jarvela. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1951 from Michigan Technological University and later received his master’s degree from the University of Delaware. He served in R.O.T.C. in both high school and college. He later served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany and France.
Mr. Jarvela was employed with Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa. for 25 years where he was head of the maintenance department, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sun City Center, Fla. and Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairview Village, Pa. He was also a member of the Sun City Center Emergency Squad.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
Surviving is a daughter, Lori J. Peltier of Collegeville, Pa., and two grandchildren, Lisa Kissel and her husband, Ezra, of Alburtis, Pa., and Eric Peltier and his partner, Kelly Kiernan, of Prague. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Jarvela, in 1969, and by a sister, Betty DeCoe, in 2013.
A public memorial service is pending and will be announced. Interment will be private at Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square.
