Susan J. (Wendling) Gmachowski, 77, of Apollo Beach, Fla., formerly of Bellingham, Mass. died peacefully on September 16, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Gmachowski Jr. and her sister Ruth Devine, who passed in 2016.
Born in Melrose, Mass. on January 19, 1941. The daughter of Albert C. and Edna (Schwab) Wendling. She lived in Framingham through her childhood and then settled in Bellingham for 29 years to raise her family. Employed through the years as a Hair Stylist and in Child Development before retiring to Apollo Beach in 1997.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
She is survived by her two daughters, Beth Leporati of Blackstone, Mass. and Kim Bishop of Ruskin, Fla., her four grandchildren GS11/SSgt USAF Sean Gmachowski of Blackstone, Mass., Nickolas Leporati of Blackstone, Mass., Brittny Bishop of Ruskin, Fla., Petty Officer 3rd Class U.S. Navy<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Rianne Bishop of Ruskin, Fla. and her brother Albert Wendling of Apollo Beach, Fla.
Susan was a graduate of Framingham High School in 1959. She was active in the church and taught Sunday School for many years both at Bellingham Bible Baptist Church in Bellingham, Mass. and Simmons Loop Baptist Church in Riverview, Fla. She had a passion for reading and travel and spent many summers on the beaches of Cape Cod, Mass. with her family.
There are no calling hours and there will be a private graveside service. She will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, she was a huge animal lover, and donations can be made to C.A.R.E., 1528 27th Street S.E., Ruskin, FL 33570.
