George R. Laipple
George R. Laipple, age 88, of Sun City Center, died on Monday, January 7, 2019, at home.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>

He was born on October 12, 1930, in Faulkner, Iowa.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>

George was the youngest of eight children born to John and Grace Laipple. After being drafted into the U.S. Army and serving his country in the Korean War, he attended the University of Northern Iowa where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the School of Business and then completed his master’s degree from Governors State University in Illinois. George taught business education and was the vocational education coordinator for a total of 26 years in the Rich Township School District in Illinois. He also had a summer job as a Greyhound bus driver and was a certified auctioneer. After his retirement in 1989, he relocated from Park Forest, Ill., to Sun City Center, Fla.

George is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Brown Laipple; his daughters Marcia (Mike) Stichter of San Diego, Calif. and Cathy (Rick) Thurwachter of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; a son Tom (Trish) Laipple of Steger, Ill. He was preceded in death by a son Allan (Maren) Laipple of Algonquin, Ill.

George enjoyed reading, bingo, traveling, sharing a good joke, was a huge supporter of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association Foundation (IRTA), and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>

His greatest joy was being a Grandpa to his 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for George was held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1239 W. Del Webb Blvd. Sun City Center, FL 33573.

Private burial will be in Monee, Ill. Memorials may be made in George’s memory to the IRTA Foundation, 828 S. Second St., 4th Floor, Springfield, IL 62704.
