John Kane

John Kane, 78, of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away peacefully on November 6, 2020. He was the oldest son of the late Alexander and Irene (Linehan) Mazeikus.
John grew up in Lynn, Mass. As a U.S. Navy veteran, he served as a radio operator aboard the Admiral’s Flagship, USS Newport News, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later graduated from Merrimack College, majoring in English literature, and from Boston University, earning an MBA in business administration. He worked at Langley Equipment in Medford, Mass., and later as a Senior Buyer for Boston Gear, retiring in 2008. He then moved to Sun City Center, Fla.
John loved bicycling. He rode in every state in the continental U.S. and recorded the number of counties he rode in each state. In 1976, as a member of the Charles River Wheelmen, he founded the club’s annual New Year’s Day Ride.
He was an avid reader; a devoted fan of Jeopardy; a member of American Mensa, Boston Chapter; and a charming ballroom dancer.
John would always surprise you with his unique “dry sense of humor.” He was very kind hearted and made lasting friendships. It was hard not to love John. He was a beautiful soul, and he will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by his youngest brother Paul Mazeikus. He is survived by wife, Connie Kane, Sun City Center Fla.; brother, Peter Mazeikus, Wakefield, Mass.; nieces Erika and Amy; and numerous cousins.
