William E. Broberg

William E. Broberg died peacefully on Feb. 22, 2021, at Hospice House in Sun City Center after a brief illness. He leaves his loving wife, Betty Lou Pratt, and four daughters: Catherine Foerster (Mark) Keuka Park, N.Y.; Karen Palotti, Simsbury, Conn.; Linda Kilmer, Rochester, N.Y.; Donna Shum, Stafford, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; also step-children: Dona Olsen (John), Tampa, Fla.; Dale Pratt (Lee Ann) Bradenton, Fla.; Deborah Smith, Katy, Texas; five step-granddaughters and one step-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Gilruth) Broberg; and sons-in-law: Gary Palotti, Lloyd Kilmer and Steve Shum.
Bill was born in Downers Grove, Ill., and graduated from Downers Grove HS. He then joined the Navy and served for two years at the end of World War II in the Pacific. Afterwards, he attended and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University. He married Margaret in 1949, with whom he had four daughters. He started his career at General Electric, eventually moving to other financial management positions, and retired as Senior Vice President Finance of Industrial Ceramics in 1990. In the course of his career, Bill and his family lived in Schenectady, N.Y.; Owensboro, Ky.; Decatur, Ill.; Dayton, Ohio; and then settled in Leroy, N.Y., for the last 25 years of employment.
Bill and Margaret moved to Sun City Center, Fla., in 1993, living in Kings Point. Bill became an enthusiastic golfer, was a dedicated member of the DILLIGAS golf group and served on the Florida State Golf Association course rating team. He also served his HOA board for many years, was a library volunteer, served Meals on Wheels, drove for Samaritan Services and was a member of the SCC Computer Club and Scandinavia Club. Margaret passed away in 2005 after a long illness.
Bill and Betty Lou were married in 2010 at the United Community Church (now South Shore United Church of Christ), where they were members. Bill became an avid traveler and was a member of the Sun City Travel Club. He and Betty Lou saw much of the world in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand, loving every minute of it. When frequently asked what was his favorite place, Bill always answered, “The next one.” He has now reached that final destination and is in his forever Home. God Bless, Dear One.
The family wishes to thank all of the medical staff and Comfort Keepers who took care of Bill at South Bay Hospital. A special thanks to the medical staff and special nurses for their loving and wonderful care at SSC Hospice House. You are all very special Angels of Mercy.
