Kenneth B. Spence

Kenneth Byron Spence, 85, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully at his home Feb. 19, 2021, under the care of Hospice and his family. Kenneth was born in Independence, Mo., and grew up in Raytown, Mo., where he met and married his high school sweet heart and wife of 65 years, C. Virginia Spence. The couple lived in Raytown, Mo., for 50 years raising their family. Kenneth and Virginia retired to Nixa, Mo., where they lived for 10 years then moved to Sun City Center, Fla., in 2012.
Kenneth was deeply spiritual and very active in spreading the gospel as a church music minister at the following Missouri churches: Buckner, Mo., Baptist Church; Loma Vista Baptist Church of Raytown, Mo.; Besonia Baptist Church of Kansas City, Mo.; and Ruskin Heights Baptist Church of Kansas City, Mo. Kenneth was a member for 25 years of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Union and then opened and ran a successful business with his wife for 25 years. Kenneth enjoyed outdoor activities with his family, including RVing, fishing, boating and water sports all of his life.
Kenneth is predeceased by his parents, S.A. Hill and Louise Hill, and brothers, Wayne Spence and Larry Hill. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Brown-Spence; three children: sons, Bruce (Judith) Spence, Kent (Cristina) Spence and daughter, Carrol (Russell) Mell. Kenneth has 11 grandchildren: Jessica Spence, Stephen (Madoka) Spence, Ben Ryan Spence, Courtney (Chris) Coffman, Dustin Spence, Kris (Ashley) Spence, Nicholas Spence, Parker Skouby, Jacob Vaught, Adam Vaught and Nathaniel Vaught. Kenneth has nine great-grandchildren: Chase Coffman, Peyton Coffman, Teagan Coffman, Hunter Spence, Madison Spence, Miles Spence, Cole Spence, Abigale Spence, Mako Spence.
A memorial celebration of Kenneth’s life is to be planned in the spring when family and friends can attend safely together. Until that time Virginia and the family ask for your prayers and messages of love and fond memories of Kenneth in the coming days and weeks.
