Grace Vernice Tomberlin Helms

</span><br />Grace Vernice Tomberlin Helms went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2011, at age 91. She was born in Pelham, Georgia, July 8, 1919, and moved to Thomaston, Georgia as a teenager. She married Emory Helms from Thomaston and lived there until 1959 when they moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and later to Sun City Center, Florida. In the 1940s and 1950s she was pianist and organist at the Assembly of God Church in Thomaston. She taught Sunday school and conducted Bible studies at various churches she attended and she and her daughters sang at local churches and several around the State. She worked for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia as an agent and underwriter then later as a bookkeeper for Thomaston Furniture Company and as an attendant at Coggins Funeral Home. After moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana she was office manager for Bombet & Bombet Pediatric group for twenty years and briefly at Perkins Radiation Center. She is pre-deceased by husband Emory Helms and great-grandson John Ross Raines.</p>
<p>Survivors include three daughters, Vernice Waddick (Tom) of League City, Texas; Barbara Baker (George) Sun City Center, Florida; Marie Norton (Paul) Sun City Center, Florida; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Margaret Tomberlin and several nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>Funeral Services were held on Saturday March 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial followed in Flint River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 11, 2011.</p>
