James Copley (Jim) was born Sept. 3,1942, in Franklin, Nebraska. Jim’s father, Christian Copley, and mother, Audra Copley, lived, farmed and died in Franklin, Nebraska, and were the recipients of Jim’s greatest love and admiration. Like his parents - Jim’s heart and soul was poured into the land. Up until his last breath, Jim lovingly tended to the Copley Farm.
Jim played high school and afterwards college football for Sterling College in Kansas and found the love of his life there. The two soon married as college sweethearts. Jim is survived by Shirley Copley, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and devoted wife of 62 years. He is also survived by children, Mark Copley (Wendy), Carrie Garcia (GG), Chris Copley (Clara) and Leah Kudlak (John). Shirley always said he was a wonderful father. Jim’s grandchildren are Kayla Cerquozzi (Anthony), Marina Copley, Nicole Copley, Carina Copley, Natasha Kudlak, Alex Kudlak and Katie Copley.
Jim is survived by his sister, JoAnn Hossler (Jim), and many family and extended family members.
At Franklin High School in Nebraska Jim held the track and field record until just recently for both the 220 yard and 100 yard dash! That’s almost sixty years to hold the high school record! Through dedication and hard work Jim advanced in his banking career and was well respected in the community. Over the years he served faithfully in various churches and in ministries, such as grass cutting, parking, financial planning, serving meals, washing dishes, etc. He loved serving at God’s house and being with his fellow parishioners. Jim deeply loved his family, friends and neighbors, not only in word but in deed also. He never said an unkind word to or about any person his entire life. Jim faithfully worked, sacrificed, served, saved and shared – all because of his love for Jesus Christ. God commands us to “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, mind and strength.” Surely Jim has been welcomed home to his Savior and greeted with the words “Well done, thy good and faithful servant!”
