Betty Kelly

Betty Kelly, age 96, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026. Born on July 19, 1930, to James and Antonie Kochlefl, she was raised in Northfield, Illinois, with siblings, Joe, Sally, Emil, Anne, Jim and Bill. She was clever, fearless and devoted to her family. She graduated from New Trier High School.
In 1951, Betty married John Nemmer with whom she built her loving family, Catherine (Jordan), Daniel, Alan and Robert. A son, David, was lost during childbirth, and Daniel passed in 2013. As the children grew older, she enjoyed using her accounting skills in positions of increasing responsibility until her retirement from Searle (now Monsanto) in 1992. John passed away in 1981 after 30 wonderful years of marriage. Led by her strong faith, Betty carried on with strength, grace and dignity.
Upon retirement, Betty escaped the cold Illinois winters to Sun City Center, Florida, where she lived for the rest of her life. She made many close friends and happily participated in many of the social activities available there, especially the Pinochle Club. Finding love again, she married Frank Kelly in 1998. Together they enjoyed extensive travels while bringing out the best in each other. Frank passed away in 2008.
Betty was a loving grandmother to six grandchildren, Amy, Danielle, Grant, Maureen and Zachary. Sadly, Lindsey passed away in 2016. Betty was blessed with five great-grandchildren. Additionally, Betty is survived by her sister, Anne Haraldson, of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mass will be said in Betty's name at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center. There will be a memorial service prior to her interment at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois, next to John. In Betty's memory, the family requests donations to your local Hospice organization.
