Mary Bernadette Smyth passed away on Tuesday, March 31, at 11:45 p.m. due to complications with cancer. Mary was James P. Smyth Sr. and Florence Fagan Smyth’s daughter. Mary is survived by siblings Loretta, Jim, Jeff and Jerry. Her eldest brother Michael died last year.
Mary is also survived by Elizabeth Seymour (daughter); son-in-law Edward Lopez; stepdaughter, Kiri Maasen, daughter of late husband, Paul B Maasen (deceased); and grandchildren, Isaiah Seymour-Lopez, Isabella Seymour-Lopez.
Her services were held in Sun City Center, Tuesday, April 7, from 1 to 4 p.m.
An additional service will be held at Lake Michigan (in Wisconsin), which she referred to as “my lake” as a child— TBD.
Mary, loving mother, stepmother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother and esteemed colleague, loved travel, adventure and learning.
Mary owned a sharp wit, keen intellect, wild heart and supportive spirit.
Mary was a proud AA sponsor and advocate for anyone looking to improve their lives.
Mary was a human rights advocate, a proud Democrat and a practitioner of fairness in an unfair world. She loved without a checklist, believed in the mysteries of the universe and found adventure around corner.
Mary wrote accurately and astutely. She loved to help others with her wisdom and possessed true beauty.
