M. Louise Kammerlohr

M. Louise Kammerlohr, 94, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, in Sun City Center, FL. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 701 Valley Forge Boulevard, Sun City Center, FL. Internment will be private at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Louise was born January 24, 1918, in North Loup, Nebraska, to Thomas and Ethel Hamer. She was the 3rd of 9 children. Louise was active in the 7th Day Baptist Church and the community, and in 1935 graduated from North Loup High School with a scholarship to Milton College, Wisconsin. After 2 years at Milton, Louise transferred to the University of Nebraska, initially majoring in child welfare, and later earning her Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska Teachers College. For the next 2 years she taught elementary school and music in Comstock and Broken Bow, NE. While at the U of N she met the love of her life, Kam, and they married on June 4, 1942. During Kam’s service in World War II, Louise worked for Western Electric in Lincoln. Later, she was one of the first women to become a Quality Control Engineer with Bell Telephone Laboratories. In Utah, she did some substitute teaching, but as a homemaker, most of her energy was directed toward providing a stable and loving environment for her family. She also was an exceptional seamstress. Eventually, she became office manager for RE/MAX A-1, Inc., bringing efficiency and high standards to the company. Louise was extensively involved in the Lutheran Church, especially with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was Utah Zone President, Utah-Idaho District President, Parliamentarian for the International LWML, and led many seminars and Bible studies. Louise was also a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, and served as President of both the Utah Real Estate Auxiliary and the Salt Lake Optimist Auxiliary. People appreciated her positive organizational and leadership skills. From early in her life, Louise had a love for music. She was an accomplished pianist, using her skills to accompany at her church as a youth and in her teaching. She instilled that love of music into her children. A later interest in genealogies was used to develop the Kammerlohr family tree. Her love of people and learning, and Kam’s love of travel, took them to all 50 states. In 1988, Kam and Louise moved to Sun City Center, FL, where she enjoyed people, retirement, and the “warmer weather”. She spent her last years in a care facility due to Alzheimers. Now she is experiencing the glories of heaven. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Kam, her sisters, Winnie, Florence, Muriel, Marjory, Evelyn, and Carolyn, and her brother, Lewis. She is survived by her children, Mary (Jake) Brake of Dade City, FL, and Bill (Norma) Kammerlohr of Springfield, IL, her grandchildren, Josh (Krista) Kammerlohr of Denver, CO, Dan (Jacquie) Kammerlohr of Salt Lake City, UT, and Anna Kammerlohr of Springfield, IL, great-grandsons Titus and Andrew Kammerlohr of Denver, CO, and Silas Kammerlohr of Salt Lake City, UT, and her brother, John Hamer of Hastings, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Redeemer Lutheran Church, or the donor’s favorite charity.
