Dorothy Railey Bishop

December 22, 1912 –

Dorothy Railey Bishop, 99, of Wimauma, Florida was born December 22, 1912 in Adrian Georgia. She was educated in Georgia at Women’s College of Georgia, receiving her degree in Elementary Education from Valdosta State College. After 25 years she retired from teaching in Georgia and Florida. Mrs. Bishop first married Johnny F. Railey, a senior railroad conductor, and had two children together. She then married James F. Bishop in 1972 following Mr. Railey’s death in 1944. After moving to Wimauma with Mr. Bishop she was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Wimauma.</p>
<p>Mrs. Bishop was a gracious and loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was strongly devoted to her family and is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Johnson; son, Johnnie F. Railey; grandchildren, Janet, Judy, Bradley, Johnny and Todd; great grandchildren, Lauren, Elizabeth, Myles, Sydney, Megan, Kayla, and Nicholas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and members of the Bishop family. Mrs. Bishop will also be missed by her devoted caregiver Ms. Janet Sauls. Flowers accepted, or donations may be made in memory of Dorothy Railey Bishop to Lifepath Hospice or American Heart Association. Viewing services were held on Monday, August 27 and burial services were held on August 28 at National Cremation 308 E College Ave. Burial will follow at Fellowship Cemetery.</p>
