<p>John P. Gillespie, 94, of Kings Point passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013. He was born on June 11, 1919 in Rockford, Alabama.</p>
<p>John served in an armored division in World War II, was married to the late Jewel Gillspie for 50 years, and made his career as a house painter before moving to Florida some 30 years ago.</p>
<p>He was predeceased by daughter Judy Poppovitch and son Johnny Gillespie.</p>
<p>He is survived by grandson Sidney (Katrina) Smith; his long-tme companion Vicki Herschberger and her daughter Carma Whitwer; and great-grandchildren John, Rachel and Samantha Long of Ruskin.</p>
<p>A memorial service for John will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20 at the Sun City Christian Center in Wimauma.</p>
