<p>Ruth Huber Dalton Anderson, 92, of Sun City Center, Fla. passed away on September 11, 2013, at home after a brief battle with cancer. Ruth was born on June 11, 1921 in Shakopee, Minn., the third of four daughters to Edward J. and Laura S. Huber.</p>
<p>After graduating high school in 1939, she entered nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. She graduated in 1942 and joined the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps as an Ensign. She worked at Naval Hospitals in Norman, OK, Oakland Naval Hospital, Calif., and Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif., where she met Lt. Howard Dalton, a Marine. They were married five weeks later on April 29, 1944. Five months later he left for Iwo Jima with the 5th Marine Division and Ruth returned to Minnesota to await his return. Their first child, Gail, was born in March, 1945 in the hospital where Ruth had trained. After her husband’s return in November 1945, they made several moves and had two more children, Jeff and Vicki. Ruth and Howard ended up in Greensboro, N.C. where they lived for 20 years. Howard died in 1986 after a long battle with cancer. In 1988 Ruth married Ray Anderson and moved to Sun City Center, Fla. where they lived for 18 years before moving to Freedom Plaza in 2006. Ray died in 2009 after numerous complications following a car accident.</p>
<p>Having benefited from Hospice’s help during Howard’s final days, Ruth went on to volunteer with the organization for 23 years after his death. Always giving of herself but never seeking recognition, she was honored as Volunteer of the Year for Hospice in Hillsborough County, Fla. in 1993. Ruth was also instrumental in helping to launch and raise funds for the new Hospice House in Sun City Center. She always spoke in glowing terms of LifePath Hospice and considered her years of service and the relationships she formed there to be truly rewarding.</p>
<p>Ruth was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church and was active in the RN Club of Sun City Center, where she served in a variety of roles. She also loved playing bridge, reading, and bowling.</p>
<p>Ruth will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends and the many, many people whose lives she touched with her warm, loving and generous spirit. We are blessed to have had her in our lives all these years and now the world’s loss is heaven’s gain!</p>
<p>She is survived by a large loving family: son Jeff (Lois) Dalton of Boise, Ida.; daughters Gail (Bill) Carter of Kingwood, Tex., and Vicki (Jack) Lyles of Darlington, S.C.; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Imboden and Peg Erpelding of Minnesota; dear nieces and nephew, and other extended family.</p>
<p>She was preceded in death by husband of 42 years, Howard L. Dalton; husband of 21 years, Raymond A. Anderson; and sister Wynnie Blewett.</p>
