Richard Hugh Woods, 57, our beloved “Peewee” of Ruskin, Fla., passed away September 30, 2014. He was born May 21, 1957, in Greenville, S.C.

He passed away at Tampa General Hospital from Guillain-Barré syndrome, which occurs when the immune system attacks the nervous system, leading to paralysis. It manifests after a respiratory or gastrointestinal viral infection; there is no known cure.

Peewee is survived by his mother, Sarah Woods of Greenville, S.C.; sisters Vicki Moore and Cathy Swicord of Greenville, and Wanda Manning of Ruskin; nephews Chris, Daniel, Thomas, Luke, Wayne and Joe; nieces Jill, Melissa, Angela, Brandi, and Jessica; and a host of family and many dear friends!

He was pre-deceased by his father Luther Woods, brother Bruce Woods and sister Audrey Woods.

Peewee was a Southern gentleman. He would never enter a room first if a lady was present and always showed the utmost respect and courtesy by opening the door. He insisted on carrying everything, light or heavy (even though he weighed about 110 lbs soaking wet).

Peewee would always say “Thank you for letting me help.” He was a huge blessing and a true friend. Peewee will be missed more than words can say. Peewee will be remembered by smiling and then grunting, “Fried cornbread & green tomatoes.” Last words of Peewee’s wisdom would be: “Peace YEAH!”

Services were held Oct. 7 at Maranatha Church of God in Ruskin. Burial followed at Ruskin Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Melvin Lewis III, Daniel Lewis, Jeffrey Marvel, Randy Manning, Kelly Badgerow and Raymond Brewer.

Arrangements by Zipperer’s Funeral Home.
