Muriel C. Stevenson
August 14, 1966 – November 23, 2014
Muriel C. Stevenson of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away Nov. 23, 2014.
Born in Pawtucket, R.I., on Oct. 24, 1929, she graduated from Pawtucket East High School in 1946. During those years she played basketball, softball and volleyball; was a cheerleader and member of the Leaders’ Club; a straight-A student; and worked as a cashier at a downtown theater.
After high school, Muriel graduated from Bryant College Secretarial School with high honors.
In 1948, while working as an executive secretary at Draper Corp. in Pawtucket, Muriel met her future husband, Clifford. She married Clifford in 1950 and became the private secretary for the Registrar at Springfield (Mass.) College.
In 1952, Muriel and Clifford moved to Oberlin, Ohio, where he started a job at Oberlin College. Their first child, David, was born in July 1952. Karen was born in September 1953, and Paul in March 1955.
In 1960, the family moved back to Rhode Island when Cliff became soccer and lacrosse coach at Brown University.
During the 30 years they spent at Brown, Muriel helped establish the R.I. Junior Soccer League and helped develop C.S. Sports Inc. As secretary and vice president of C.S. Sports, she helped start the first overnight soccer school in the U.S. and the first overnight soccer school for girls age 8 to 16. She handled all registrations and helped run these schools. She also was involved with the U.S. Lacrosse School in the same capacity.
During those 30 years, Muriel also was the recorder for the New England Collegiate Soccer and Lacrosse Rating Boards. She took calls coming in from 10 college coaches every Saturday and Sunday in the fall and spring.
Daughter Donna was born Aug. 14, 1966.
After Cliff’s retirement in 1991, they traveled the U.S. in a motor home and, in 1999, bought a condo in Kings Point. Muriel helped out by organizing and typing the Radison II roster each year. She was an avid golfer and an expert at sudoku and crossword puzzles.
With a smile and a laugh all the time, she never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was an angel.
Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, at Serenity Meadows, 6019 Providence Road in Riverview.

Robert Terry “Pat” Patterson of Sun City Center entered his eternal home on December 29, 2014. Son of the late Ira Claude and Lillian Price Patterson; beloved husband of Michele Costin Patterson; loving father of Robert Patterson, Tim Patterson and Shanna Patterson Keeler; brother of James Patterson, Sam Patterson, Billy Patterson, Linda Patterson Hurley and the late Ira Claude Patterson; also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and -nephews.
Pat served 20 years in the U.S. Army, where he was a satellite systems specialist. He relocated to Florida after retiring from government work in 2000. He volunteered with the Sun City Center Emergency Squad and was a member of Moose Lodge #3813, Elks #2515 and VFW Post 6257. Pat was most at home in the outdoors, where he was an avid hunter and fisherman, as evidenced by his employment at Little Harbor Marina.
Per Pat’s request, services and interment are private. Arrangements entrusted to National Cremation & Burial Society, Ruskin, Fla.
