Kathryn V. Chaney
Kathryn V. Chaney, 83, passed away at home June 25, 2015, at 1612 Faxton Drive, Sun City Center, Fla., due to complication from Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by husband Charles L. Chaney; and daughter Cynthia Ravenstein, husband Crist, and grandson Ethan, all of whom live in California. She is also survived by sister Gladys Brungo of Pennsylvania. Services will be held in Chino, Calif.
Kathryn was born in Clarksburg, W. Va., and graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1949. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1951 and worked for the U.S. Government Price Stabilization Board. From 1952 to 1962, she was employed by the Central Intelligent Agency.
On December 3, 1961, she married her husband at the Methodist Building in Washington, D.C., and the following year they moved to San Diego, where her husband was newly employed as a chemist by General Atomic Company. Three years later, she and her husband adopted their six-month-old daughter Cynthia.
From 1972 to 2000, Kathryn worked with her husband in their business, Spectra Company, analyzing various materials for trace elements. She was a very active volunteer for the San Diego Humane Society Auxiliary and served a three-year term as its treasurer from 1982 to 1996. In 1988, she was presented with an award by the Humane Society for her outstanding and dedicated service.
Kathryn and her husband retired from their business in 2000. A year later they moved to Sun City Center, where they became active shuffleboard members until 2010.
