Harold Matz
Harold L. Matz, 93, beloved husband of Martha (née Oehler) Matz, entered eternal life July 2, 2015. Son of Emil and Ida Matz, he was born and raised in Riverdale, Ill.
In 1960, as lay missionaries of the Lutheran Church, he and his family moved to Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to manage the Queen Louise Home for Children for 10 years.
Following that wondrous time, Harold, Martha and their daughter moved to Miami, Fla., where Harold was a plant manager for the Maintenance Department of Miami Children’s Hospital.
Retiring in 1997, he and Martha moved to Sun City Center, Fla., where they enjoyed volunteering and becoming active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Harold is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Martha; sons Richard (Jill, deceased) and Kenneth (JoAnna); daughter Sheryl Podley (Timothy); eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three nephews; sister Lily Lau; and sister-in-law Opal Oehler.
With the assurance that God through the Savior, Jesus Christ, has prepared a place for him in his Kingdom, a burial will be held later at the Sarasota Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of all flowers, monetary memorials may be given to the Queen Louise Home for Children, Box 866, Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands 00841.
