Leonard Vaughn Moore Sr.

August 27, 1922 – July 26, 2015

Leonard Vaughn Moore Sr., of Sun City Center, Fla., died Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Known as “Vaughn” to family and friends, he was born to the late Olin and Phoebe Moore on August 27, 1922, in New Castle, Del. After graduation from William Penn High School, he served in the U.S. Army in World War II, participating in five campaigns in the European theater. For more than 40 years following the war, he worked as a chemical operator for Atlas Chemical Industries (ICI Americas).

In 1946, Vaughn married Frances Francum, also from New Castle.  With the help of his father and brothers, he built a house in New Castle, where he lived with his family until moving to Florida in 1988. For the rest of his adult life, he enjoyed carpentry work, frequently building furniture and home decorations for family and friends.

Vaughn was a member of New Castle Methodist Church and later of United Methodist Church of Sun City Center. He enjoyed traveling, taking road trips and cruises with Frances after retiring to Florida.

Vaughn was predeceased by son Leonard, and brothers  Thomas, Olin and William Moore. He is survived by wife Frances; daughter Lois Price; daughter-in-law Sheila Quinn Moore; sister Thelma Thornton; grandchildren Todd, Ben, Greg and Tyler Price, Christi Thoms Knox, and Brian Moore; and great-grandchildren Madison and Caden Thoms, and Drew and Carly Price.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center, 1210 W. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City Center, FL 33573, where a memorial service was held on August 1. Vaughn will be buried at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Trinity, Fla.
